Dali exhibition at the Pompidou Centre in Paris /

Dali, du 21 novembre 2012 au 25 mars 2013 par centrepompidou

Dali exhibition at the Pompidou Centre in Paris: last days.

There is still time to catch the major Dali exhibition at the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris: it remains open until Monday 25th March. It is the biggest Dali retrospective the world has seen in over 30 years, featuring around 200 works spanning decades in the life of the painter.
The great surrealist artist, Salvador Dali (1904-1989) had a huge influence on 20th century art.

This exhibition explores all aspects of the Spanish artist's life. Both the private and public sides of the life of this prolific painter, sculptor and writer are presented here. Many of his most famous works are exhibited, as well as some of his lesser known works, his surrealist films, sketches and drawings, early works and works featuring optical devices. Several video interviews demonstrate the mustachioed painter's love for melodrama and sensation.

Don't miss your chance to behold the works of the most unconventional and flamboyant artist, whose life and art may be exressed in one single phrase that he once said: "I myself am Surrealism"

The address of the Georges Pompidou Centre is 19, rue Beaubourg  75004, Paris.

Marie Laurencin exhibition (from 21st February – 30th June 2013)

On the 21st of February the exhibition dedicated to Marie Laurencin has opened in Marmottan-Monet Museum in Paris. She was the muse of the French poet Guillaume Apollinaire, a close friend of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, an important figure in the Parisian avant-garde. She is one of the best known female painters of the XX century. This exhibition is the first retrospective of Laurencin to be held in a French museum.

Marie Laurencin knew a great number of poets and writers of the first part of the past century, and she illustrated their masterpieces. In particular, she knew André Gide, Paul Morand,  Max Jacob, Jacques de Lacretelle, Max Jacob, Jean Cocteau, Jean Paulhan, and many others. Laurencin also painted theatrical sceneries for French Comédie Française and Russian ballet of Dyagilev, she was a poet and a printmaker.
Her works unite the XVIII century rococo motives and the style of Persian and Mongolian miniature painting. Preferring rose-pink and blue pastel colors, Laurencin usually represented female and children portraits in her paintings. She was also fascinated by circus actors. Female characters created by Laurencin and defined as “the creatures of the fairies’ country” are always charming and attractive.
Among some ninety works that have been brought together at the Marmottan-Monet Museum, the great majority come from the Japanese museum in Tokyo, opened by patron Mr. Takano and his son more than thirty years ago and dedicated to Marie Laurencin. The exhibition unites particularly charming masterpieces that reflect different periods of the painter’s life. No one, except her, used such subtle nuances and midtones, no one painted using such light dabs. Her poetic and elegant paintings, representing the Amazons and flying doves, are worthy of respect. The works of Marie Laurencin, greatly appreciated abroad, embody the French distinguished style that affects virtuosos.

The exhibition will last till the 30th of June 2013. The address of the Marmottan-Monet Museum is 2, Rue Louis Boilly 75016 Paris.

2 (2, Rue Louis Boilly 75016 Paris)

Marc Chagall: between War and Peace.

On the 21st of February the exhibition dedicated to Marc Chagall will open in the Luxembourg Palace in Paris. The life and the work of this outstanding avant-gardist artist of the XX century were connected both with the Russian and the French cultures. The exhibition will present about 100 works of the artist, entitled “Marc Chagall: between War and Peace”.

Mark Chagall died in 1985, at 97 years of age. This unconventional artist underwent the Russian Revolution, two World Wars and an exile. These events had changed the life of the artist and thus were reflected on his canvas. The main theme of the exposition “War and peace” intertwines with the traditional motives of the artist such as his childhood in Vitebsk, the Bible, family, love and circus.

The exposition will open with the works created before the First World War and will show the most significant moments in the life of the artist. His expatriation from Russia to France and the escape from the occupied France to the United States in 1941 are depicted on his pictures with an overwhelming feeling of tragedy. Only after his return to France by the end of his life the artist starts to create brighter and more blithesome pictures, with some of them depicting Mediterranean scenery.
Each picture possesses plurality of interpretations and fully reflects the life events and the emotions of the artist. The exhibition will recreate the life journey of the artist and will allow to feel the pain, challenges, love and cravings of one of the greatest artists of the XX century through his works.
The exhibition will last till the 21st of July 2013. The address of the exhibition is Palais du Luxembourg, 15 Rue de Vaugirard, 75006 Paris.
