The Music Day in France and around the world (the 21st of June 2013)

Completely different from a music festival, the Fête de la Musique is above all a free popular holiday, open to any participant (amateur or professional musicians) who wants to perform in it. This Music Day allows the expression of all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere. It aims at a large audience, working to popularise musical practice for young and not so young people from all social backgrounds. It gives an opportunity to communicate and share a very special moment through music.

The musicians are asked to perform for free, and all the concerts are free for the public. It’s the reason why they are used to play in open air areas as streets and parks or in public buildings like museums, train stations, castles… Furthermore, the Music Day is a way to encourage the major music institutions (orchestra, operas, choirs, etc.) to perform outside their usual locations. It offers an opportunity to offer concerts in hospitals or in prisons, to promote encounters and exchanges between young musicians and well-known talents.

Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry for culture, the Music Day is held now in more than hundred countries in Europe and over the world. It takes place every 21st June, the day of the summer solstice in the northern hemisphere.

Праздник музыки во Франции (21 июня 2013 г.) Французские музыкальные коллективы в России.

21 июня — самый длинный световой день, ставший датой праздника музыки, звучащей во всей Франции. Праздник Музыки — это уникальное музыкальное событие, организованное впервые в 1982 году благодаря министру Франции Жаку Лангро и проводимое в день летнего солнцестояния.

В этот день каждому, кто чувствует себя музыкантом, независимо от возраста, социального статуса и стиля исполняемой музыки, предоставляется возможность выступить перед публикой на открытых площадках города. Все, кто умеет играть на музыкальных инструментах, играют, кто умеет петь — поют, кто умеет танцевать — танцуют, те, кто начисто лишен всяческих талантов, слушают исполнителей, и все вместе радуются жизни. Свободный диалог на языке музыки — это лучший способ популяризации музыкальной культуры. 

В этот день проходят парады оркестров и концерты, в которых принимают участие и «звезды», и никому неизвестные артисты, исполняющие музыкальные произведения абсолютно всех жанров, от классической музыки, до самых современных ее течений. Многие известные музыканты специально в этот день приезжают во Францию, чтобы бесплатно выступить на сценических площадках, в ресторанах, на улицах.

За 30 лет своего существования Праздник музыки получил поистине международное признание. Каждое лето 21 июня музыканты, любители и профессионалы, выходят петь и играть на улицы 350 городов 120 стран пяти континентов. В этом году Праздник музыки отмечается и в 13 городах России. The exhibition of Murano glass in Paris, at the Musée Maillol (from 27 March to 28 July 2013)

We remind you that till 28 July 2013 you have a unique opportunity to admire the exhibition of Murano glass in Paris.

For the first time in France, an exhibition features an extraordinary adventure of the Murano glass, its evolution from the XVth century to our days. 

Did you know that the tradition of the Venetian glass goes back to the VIth century? The first glassmakers lived in Venice, but later their manufactories were moved to Murano, island in the Venetian Lagoon, to avoid the risk of fire from the furnaces spreading onto the largely wooden structures of overpopulated Venice. However, many historians agree that the true motive for this transfer was to isolate the glass craftsmen to a location where they wouldn’t be able to disclose trade secrets.

Master glassmakers were subject to draconian rules: they were not allowed to leave Venice or to export their technique, on pain of death. In particular, a 1271 law prohibited the importation of foreign glass or the employment of foreign glassworkers.

Artisans working in the glass trade were well rewarded for their efforts. They had a privileged social status, and their daughters were allowed to marry into the wealthiest and noblest of Venetian families. Moreover, they had a right to mint their personal coin!
Venetian glass reached the peak of its popularity in the 15th and 16th centuries, growing into Venice’s second most important industry after the shipbuilding in the Arsenale.

Today, artists, designers and architects from all around the world come to Murano to work with the master glassmakers to produce pieces embodying an excellence founded on centuries of tradition.

Производство стекла зародилось уже в VI веке в Венеции. Изначально стекольные мастерские были расположены в самом городе, но из-за частых пожаров, угрожавших городу, чьи постройки были в основном деревянными, в XIII веке все мастерские были переведены на небольшой остров Мурано, находящийся недалеко от Венеции. Непослушание наказывалось смертью.

Кроме соображений безопасности властями двигали соображения секретности: венецианское стекло уже тогда ценилось на вес золота, приносило существенный доход республике и перенос производства на отдельный остров позволял ревностно хранить секреты стекольного искусства. 

Мастера-стеклодувы также получили привилегии: им и их потомкам разрешались браки со знатными аристократами. Вместе с тем мастерам было строжайше запрещено покидать остров.
В XVI веке слава муранского стекла становится поистине мировой. Его приобретают повсюду как предмет роскоши, а творения муранских мастеров достигают невероятной тонкости.

Сегодня на Мурано успешно работают и потомственные стеклодувы, и ученики сегодняшних маэстро - талантливые художники по стеклу. В Мурано съезжаются художники и дизайнеры из разных стран мира, чтобы перенять уникальную технику производства стеклянных изделий и использовать их в своих проектах. Благодаря своему творческому началу муранское стекло всегда было настоящим искусством и остается таковым сейчас.

Russian film "Short stories" within the Brussels Film Festival 2013 (on the 19th of June 2013)

We invite everyone to see a fictional film of a Russian filmmaker Mikhail Segal within the Brussels Film Festival 2013.

Short Stories (2012) is an exhilarating cinematic ride that imbues social commentary with a rich understanding of the need for entertainment. 

When a young writer's manuscript is rejected at a stylish publishing house, it somehow finds its way into the hands of various employees, with each of their lives curiously influenced by the prose it contains.

Mikhail Segal shows the life of today’s Russia, a country on the move. Each of publishing professionals who read these four stories presents a characteristically Russian perspective on the changing face of society and paints a humorously droll portrait of the ever changing face of Russian identity.

Combining concerns over the Westernisation of modern Russia with issues of corruption, the role of culture, religious belief systems and the widening generation gap between Soviets and non-Soviets, the author not only bestows us with a fascinating study of its country of origin, but also presents us with universal issues that just happen to be magnified by the communal unrest in Putin's Russia.  

A moving, satyrical, funny and melodramtaic take on this highly entertaining piece of cinema.

First Festival of Russian Cinema at Nice (14-17 June 2013)

We invite you to Nice, France, from the 14th to the 17th of June 2013 to the First Festival of Russian Cinema at Nice. This event is dedicated to the 400th Anniversary of Romanovs.

For the first time in France, the projection of films in their original version from the archives of Russian Public Films Funds (Gosfilmofond). Films will be shown in Russian with French subtitles.

Admission free.

With participation of Russian and French actors, producers, film critics and historians. Such celebrities as Irina Alferova, Philip Yankovsky, Eldar Ryazanov, Nikita Mikhalkov and many others are expected.

We invite you to see such well-known films as "How Czar Peter the Great Married Off His Moor", "Rasputin" (2011 with Gerard Depardieu), "The Assassin of the Tsar" (1991) and others.
